The Good Witch

She walked down the staircase, lighting candles as she went, pausing halfway down just looking out over shelves full of tiny bottles, flowers, herbs and dusty books that had been written by those that were long forgotten. She smiled as a familiar perfume filled the air, she was a Witch, like her mother before her and her mother before her, a long line of healers that shared secrets only they knew.

She stepped off the last stair and went to the fireplace, lighting some candles on the mantle before creating a beautiful, warm flame as if by magic in the firebox itself and adding a log from the grate. Moving toward the ornate, wooden counter she bent down and scooped up a large brown, leather bound book, hugging it against her for a moment before placing it on the countertop. She smiled as she opened the cover "what will today bring ladies" she asked, waiting patiently for an answer.

A light breeze rustled the air and the pages within the book flicked about before the air became still again and a single page was open for her to see. "Thanks" she whispered as she grinned and began to collect bottles and jars off her shelf, grinding them altogether, whispering words and smiling as she worked. Just then, the shop bell rang and a woman walked in.

"Hello, Welcome to The Apothecary. How can I help you?" she said with a knowing smile.
